The Canadian Center for Computational Genomics (C3G) provides bioinformatics analysis and HPC services for the life science research community.

Building upon two well established bioinformatics teams, C3G has created a distributed innovation node with broad expertise in bioinformatics, providing customized and case-by-case analysis services as well as an extensive suite of software solutions for the genomics community. The McGill Genome Centre is home to the Montréal C3G node led by Guillaume Bourque

Since 2011, C3G has completed more than 1005 bioinformatic analysis projects for over 620 distinct groups of researchers across Canada. Our teams have significant experience in personalized medicine applications. These have included genome analysis and interpretation of personal genomes, technology and services to record patient presentations, RNA and ChIP-seq data analysis, and analysis of complete human epigenomes in both germline disorders and cancers.

Our local HPC cluster, which is used primarily for data production, has undergone a significant enhancement with expansion to 2000 cores, 2.5 PB of on-line storage and the addition of a DRAGEN (Dynamic Read Analysis for GENomics) Bio-IT Platform. Informatics will undergo further increases in 2020 subject to the availability of CFI funding. Scalable support for secondary analysis – for which the community of users is primarily assisted through another GC Platform termed the Canadian Centre for Computational Genomics- is ensured by strong physical and logistical links to the Compute Canada HPC clusters at McGill (the 22,000-cores Beluga cluster) and at the Université de Sherbrooke (the 39,648-cores Mammouth cluster). Through CFI support, we are expanding the storage (adding ~ 3 TB) and compute capacity (adding 3000 cores) at the Beluga cluster to be dedicated to genomic analyses for the community.

The C3G team maintains an up-to-date set of bioinformatic tools (80) and genomic resources (18) for the community. These resources are available through our partnership with Compute Canada in 4 different HPC centres.
